cPanel configuration services cover the work needed after a control panel is installed to make a server ready for real hosting: security, email, DNS, PHP versions and backups, with the same work done for DirectAdmin, Plesk and CyberPanel. Hosting Control Panels: a practical guide

cPanel, DirectAdmin or Plesk: which control panel fits your server?

If you run ASP.NET sites or SQL Server databases, Plesk is the only panel on this list that also installs on Windows Server with IIS. On Linux servers, the license model makes the biggest difference. cPanel has used account-based pricing since 2019, and DirectAdmin also sells plans capped by account count, so estimate how many sites you will host now and in two years before choosing.

Resources matter as well. cPanel needs at least 2 GB of RAM and runs many services of its own, while DirectAdmin stays light on a small VPS. If your support staff know WHM or your reseller customers are used to cPanel, count the cost of changing habits too.

Installing cPanel on AlmaLinux or Ubuntu?

cPanel now installs on AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, CloudLinux and Ubuntu LTS releases, but only on a clean, minimal OS. If Apache, MySQL or Postfix are already present, the installer fails or collides with the existing configuration. For shared hosting with many users, the RHEL family is the better-trodden path, since CloudLinux, CageFS and KernelCare have long been used there.

DirectAdmin runs on Debian, Ubuntu and AlmaLinux, and the choice mostly comes down to whether your team is more at home with apt or dnf.

Common mistakes after installing DirectAdmin or cPanel

The server hostname is sometimes set to the domain of a hosted site, and mail for that domain then gets delivered to a local mailbox on the server itself. The hostname should be a separate name such as server1.example.com with its own A and PTR records. SSL for the DirectAdmin hostname is also often skipped, so users log in on port 2222 through a certificate warning.

Another mistake is leaving admin ports 2222 or 2087 open to every IP, when CSF can limit them to your office address. ModSecurity is sometimes left in DetectionOnly mode, where it logs attacks without blocking any of them.

What affects the cost of setting up a hosting server?

License costs depend on the panel and its tier, add-ons such as LiteSpeed Enterprise, CloudLinux or Imunify360, and whether the server is a VPS or a dedicated machine. The technical work depends on how many accounts and sites need to be moved, the size of the mailboxes, and whether reseller accounts must be set up.

If the panel sits on an existing server with security problems or an infected site, cleanup comes before configuration and adds to the scope.

How does DirectAdmin configuration differ from cPanel?

The overall work is similar and covers web server, PHP, email, firewall and backups. DirectAdmin is lighter with a cheaper license, while cPanel has more features and add-ons. The choice depends on account count and the tools your team already knows.

Can you supply the control panel license?

Yes, genuine cPanel, DirectAdmin and LiteSpeed licenses are available through our licensing service. We do not use cracked or nulled licenses, because they cut you off from security updates and can be an attack path in their own right.

Who is CyberPanel a good fit for?

CyberPanel is free and runs on OpenLiteSpeed. It is a reasonable choice for a few personal or WordPress sites on one VPS. For hosting many customers or reselling, DirectAdmin or cPanel usually provides the management tools you need.

Can a panel be installed on a server that already hosts live sites?

We advise against it, because the installer rewrites web server and mail configuration. The safe route is to install the panel on a fresh server and migrate the sites to it.
