Networking & communications

  1. 01

    Network Design & Setup

Most office networks grow one switch at a time, and after a few years nobody has an accurate map. Our network setup work starts with a needs review and a logical design covering VLANs, IP addressing and uplinks. Then we configure the hardware and hand over a documented network your own staff can troubleshoot.

    • One infected PC slows down the whole office.
    • We don't know which cable goes to which switch port.
  2. 02

    Structured Cabling

If nobody can tell which wall port feeds which switch port, every desk move turns into half a day of tracing cables. We install structured network cabling from a drop plan, using Cat6 or fiber, proper racks and patch panels. Every drop is tested, and its number matches on the wall plate, the patch panel and the drawing.

    • The back of our rack is a tangle nobody wants to touch.
    • Some wall ports are dead and we can't tell where they lead.
  3. 03

    MikroTik Setup

In many offices a MikroTik router is the only thing between staff and the internet, and it often runs a default config plus a few rules copied from a forum. During MikroTik setup we rewrite the firewall, NAT, DHCP and routing cleanly. Management access is locked down and RouterOS is moved to a current stable release.

    • The office internet drops every few days and we reboot the router.
    • Whoever configured our MikroTik has left, and we don't have the password.

    VoIP Phone Systems

An old analog PBX needs new wiring and extra line cards for every extension, and it can't reach your other branch. Our VoIP setup moves office phones onto the data network using Issabel or Asterisk. Carrier lines connect through a gateway, and branches call each other over an internal trunk with no carrier charges.

    • Our old PBX is full and there's no room for new extensions.
    • When everyone is busy, customer calls just get lost.
  5. 05

    Business VPN & Branch Links

If your factory reaches the accounting software through AnyDesk on a PC at head office, the link is slow and hard to control. A business VPN setup connects branch networks to head office through encrypted tunnels over the internet. Remote staff get access only to the servers they actually need.

    • Our factory remotes into a PC at head office to enter invoices.
    • Remote staff can't reach the company file server.

    Bandwidth Management

One large download or an automatic Windows update is enough to break up a video meeting and every VoIP call in the office. For bandwidth management we classify traffic, give business services priority and cap everything else. Usage reports then show where your internet capacity really goes.

    • The internet is fine in the morning and crawls after lunch.
    • Audio and video cut out in the middle of online meetings.

Virtualization & cloud

  1. 07

    Server Virtualization

One application per physical server means more power, more rack space and hardware that sits idle most of the day. With server virtualization those services share two or three hosts, and in a cluster the VMs from a failed host restart on the others. We choose the platform around your licensing budget and workloads, whether that is VMware vSphere, Proxmox VE or Hyper-V.

    • We run five physical servers and most of them sit idle.
    • The server behind our accounting software is out of warranty.
  2. 08

    Cloud & VM Migration

Old physical servers tend to be the ones nobody dares to touch. Our cloud migration work starts with a full inventory of services and dependencies, followed by a test run on a copy. The live service moves only after you sign off, and the old server stays powered off and untouched until the test period ends.

    • Our core application still runs on Windows Server 2008.
    • Our VMware license won't be renewed and the VMs have to move.
  3. 09

    Private Cloud

When developers file a ticket and wait days for a test server, or your data isn't allowed to leave the building, a private cloud makes sense. We build it on your own hardware so teams can create VMs and networks from a web panel within set quotas. For most organizations a Proxmox cluster is enough, and we recommend OpenStack only at larger scale.

    • Our developers wait days for every test server.
    • We're not allowed to keep our data on a public cloud.

Choosing business network setup and virtualization services

Business network setup and virtualization services in this category fall into two groups. Networking & communications covers the physical and connectivity side of an office: cabling, switches and routers, phones over the network, branch links and internet sharing. Virtualization & cloud is about the platform your servers and services run on, whether that is VMware, Proxmox or a private cloud.

If you are opening a new office or your current network grew without a plan, start with Network Design & Setup, where VLANs and IP addressing are designed. Structured Cabling fits when cables are unlabeled, the rack is a tangle or a new building needs wall ports. If a MikroTik router is your only internet gateway and still runs a default config, choose MikroTik Setup. For company phones, see VoIP Phone Systems. Secure connections for a factory, a branch or remote staff come under Business VPN & Branch Links, and if one large download breaks everyone's video calls, Bandwidth Management is the right service.

In the second group, Server Virtualization cuts down on hardware when you run several half-idle physical servers. Cloud & VM Migration moves old servers into virtual machines or the cloud without losing data, and Private Cloud gives teams self-service VMs on hardware your company owns.

These services often depend on each other: cabling comes before network setup, and virtualization comes before a private cloud. Firewall & Network Security from the Security category belongs in the plan for any new network, and the equipment itself can come through Hardware Supply & Upgrades. If you aren't sure what your current network looks like, the free Infrastructure Review is a sensible first step, and an IT Support Contract covers upkeep once the work is done.
