An IT infrastructure assessment is a view-only review of your network, servers, backups and access that records how things stand today without changing any system. It helps companies whose network grew piece by piece, who have no network map, whose previous IT person left, or who want an independent picture before buying a server or signing a support contract. In a free first visit, on-site or remote, PikoSystem lists servers, virtual machines, switches, routers and firewalls, records the topology, VLANs and internet links, flags software past vendor support such as Windows Server 2012, and checks backup status, shared admin accounts and default passwords. We also talk with management and key users about recurring problems. You receive a current-state report, a simple network map and a prioritized risk list with next steps, with no obligation to sign a contract.

Internet contracts and link details, a list of public IPs, purchase invoices for servers and licenses, and the names of contractors who have worked on the network all make the visit shorter and more accurate. If none of that exists, that is fine. Missing documentation goes into the report as a finding.
Someone with access to the server room and racks, who knows which server runs the accounting or office automation software, should be there during the visit. A note of recent outages and upcoming plans, such as an office move, a new branch or a hiring push, helps us rank the risks.
A flat network with no VLANs, where CCTV cameras, guest Wi-Fi and servers all sit together, is one of the most frequent findings. A guest's infected laptop then shares a network with the accounting server. Another is port 3389 for Remote Desktop, or Winbox on a MikroTik router, forwarded straight to the internet.
Non-technical risks show up too: the company domain registered to a former employee's personal email, a single domain controller, a UPS with no shutdown link to the servers so they crash during long power cuts, or one admin password shared across every device and known to several people.
A first visit is a snapshot of a single day. How systems behave at peak hours or over weeks, such as disks filling up or an internet link saturating, only shows up with monitoring over time. Penetration testing, a full license compliance audit and deep hardware diagnostics are also outside this visit.
The report marks which findings are confirmed and which need more investigation. A high interface error counter on a switch, for example, is recorded, but tracing its cause is separate work.
We usually sort findings into three groups. The first is quick fixes your own team can handle, like changing default passwords or closing open ports. The second needs a purchase budget, like replacing a server or an unsupported operating system. The third is projects that need design work, like network segmentation or offsite backups.
For the second and third groups, you can give the report to several contractors so their proposals rest on the same scope and can be compared. After major changes, a short follow-up review confirms the risks are actually closed.

Both. For networks and physical equipment an on-site visit gives a more accurate picture, and availability depends on your location. Cloud services and data center servers can be reviewed remotely.
