    Hardware Supply & Upgrades

    The first question before buying a server is what load it has to carry. We recommend specifications based on your software, user count and expected growth, source the hardware and handle installation. Prices are quoted once the specification is agreed, at current market rates.

    • Our server has slowed down and we can't tell whether to add RAM or buy a new one.
    • We have several server quotes and no way to compare them.

    Enterprise Licenses

    The usual mistake when buying Windows Server licenses is miscounting cores and CALs, which either wastes money or leaves the organisation under-licensed. We calculate the right licensing model for your infrastructure before you buy, source genuine licenses only, and keep track of renewal dates.

    • We don't know how many Windows Server licenses a server with two 16-core CPUs needs.
    • Our cPanel license expired and our sites started showing an error page.

Buying server and network hardware and enterprise licenses

Server and network hardware and software licenses are purchases you live with for years, and mistakes tend to show up late. In this category the work starts with advice and sizing, moves on to sourcing, and ends with installation and setup. We supply genuine licenses only.

If you need a new server, a refurbished HP server, switches, routers, access points, storage or a UPS, or want to upgrade an existing server with compatible RAM, disks and SSDs, choose Hardware Supply & Upgrades. If what you need is the right to use software, such as Windows Server with CALs, SQL Server, FortiGate subscriptions, cPanel and DirectAdmin, or business antivirus, choose Enterprise Licenses. Many projects need both. A new virtualization host needs the hardware and also operating system licenses for the virtual machines that will run on it.

Before buying, settle a few questions. What software will the server run, and for how many users? How much growth do you expect over the next few years? Is a refurbished server with a seller warranty good enough, or do you need new hardware? Is the license counted per core, per user or per device? The mistakes we see most are buying far more hardware than the workload needs and miscounting cores and CALs for Windows Server.

Hardware and licenses are usually part of a bigger project. A new server is set up through Linux Server Management or Windows Server & AD, network gear goes into Network Design & Setup or Server Virtualization, and a firewall is configured under Firewall & Network Security.
